Trail Running in Winder
The Fort Yargo Ultra takes place at Fort Yargo State Park, located just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. The event consists of a 15.6-mile loop through the park, featuring single-track trails and rolling hills around the local lake. The course is conducted entirely on trails, providing a scenic environment for all participants.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 50K: Two full loops of the 15.6-mile course.
- 25K: A single loop of the 15.6-mile course.
- Canine Run: A 25K option for participants running with their dogs, starting 15 minutes after the primary 25K group.
The event provides several fully stocked aid stations offering water, Gatorade, cola, and various snacks such as fruit, sandwiches, cookies, and candy. For the 50K race, runners are permitted two drop bags which are accessible at designated aid stations. Gear can also be stored at the start and finish area at the Lake Pavilion.
The event environment often features spring temperatures in the 70s. All participants receive a dry-fit t-shirt, finisher medal, timing services, and professional race photos. Following the race, a fresh meal is provided for all competitors. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in several categories, including overall, Masters, and Grand Masters.
