BROOKS Fort Steilacoom Invitational

The Fort Steilacoom Invitational is an early season cross country meet that began in 1998 and has grown into a large regional event. The meet aims to provide a true cross country race with an appropriate level of competition for athletes and teams.

Races include:

  • 5K
  • 1 Mile youth run

Most girls’ races start five minutes after the boys in a staggered format that allows multiple varsity and sub varsity races to run the same day. There are three varsity divisions named Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Suggested average times for the scoring five athletes are provided as placement guidelines: Gold Boys sub 17:00 and Girls sub 20:00; Silver Boys sub 17:45 and Girls sub 22:30; Bronze Boys 17:45 plus and Girls 22:30 plus.

Timing is provided by GC Racing using photo timing with a chip timing backup, and live results are posted continuously. Entry fees vary by team and race: boys and girls teams $200, single gender teams $150, five or fewer athletes $25 per athlete, youth team $75, the youth 1 Mile is free, and the open race is $10.

The course mixes grass, dirt, gravel, and short pavement crossings. The opening mile is generally flat and two major hills appear near 2000 meters and 3400 meters. Team buses and vans are asked to use the Angle Lane entrance; spectators use the roundabout on Dresden Lane. On site amenities include donuts and lunch for coaches, food trucks, and Brooks event shirts. Awards reach 20 deep in all races and varsity awards ceremonies occur after each division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
