About the race
The Foothills 10 Mile Run is a trail event held at Elena Gallegos Open Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The main course begins at about 6,500 feet and runs through Sandia Mountain Foothills trails, including single-track sections that traverse Elena Gallegos Open Space and Cibola National Forest. The route has over 900 feet of elevation gain, marked trails, and at least one on-course water station supplying water and ice.
Medical staff and radio communications personnel are present along the course; event personnel may withdraw participants who appear distressed or at risk. Race services include chip timing with live results, free professional race photos from Lobo Photo New Mexico, long-sleeve technical race shirts for participants, a large heated area at the staging point, and bag drop located south of the finish under Bosque Running Company tents. Two parking areas offer free shuttle bus service to and from the race site for runners and spectators. Post-race provisions include New Mexico breakfast burritos, locally brewed root beer, coffee, local donuts, and on-site refreshments. Awards include prize money for the top five overall male and female finishers and age-group medals for the top three in each listed age division; first-place age group winners receive a comp entry for the 2027 race.
A separate 8-week training program runs in the fall and includes three weekly runs, a 15 percent race-entry discount, and a stated fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
