Fonta Flora 50K and Half Marathon
The Fonta Flora event takes place in Nebo, North Carolina, on trails and along the banks of Lake James State Park. The course is based at Fonta Flora Brewery's Whippoorwill Farm and runs in the vicinity of Shortoff Mountain and the Linville Gorge. Portions of event proceeds support further trail development around Lake James, including the Fonta Flora State Trail. The event is organized by Tanawha Adventures.
Distances offered:
- 50K individual race
- 50K 2-person relay legs roughly 13.5 and 18.5 miles
- 50K 3-person relay legs roughly 13.5, 12.5, and 6 miles
- Half Marathon approximately 13.1 miles
Course and limits include stated totals for each distance. The half marathon lists about 850 feet of elevation gain, roughly 12.8 miles of single-track trail, 0.3 miles of pavement, and a 3.5 hour time limit. The 50K lists about 2,400 feet of elevation gain, roughly 30 miles of single-track trail, 0.75 miles of pavement, 0.75 miles of gravel, and a 9.5 hour time limit.
Packet pick up is scheduled the Friday evening before the event at Whippoorwill Farm and on race weekend at the event site; all runners must check in. The event includes a costume contest with free entries to Tanawha Adventures races awarded to winners. Refund policy: 75% until July 15, 50% until September 10, then no refunds.
