Lake James 7 Miler & 5k
The Lake James 7 Miler and 5k start and finish at Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, NC and run on trails in Lake James State Park. Races are chip timed and held rain or shine. Registration includes a finisher medal, race shirt, one Fonta Flora beer or alternate beverage, and a donation to the Lake James Environmental Association. Virtual options are available; race shirt, medal, and bib can be mailed within the United States.

- 7 Miler : single-track and mixed-surface trails through Lake James State Park.
- 5k : loop that follows the Overmountain Victory Trail and Discovery Trail.
The 7 miler includes ~425 feet of elevation gain, a 2 hour course limit, and no mile markers. The 7 miler route passes Paddy’s Creek Trail, a beach crossing with nearby restrooms, Mills Creek Trail, the Overmountain Victory Trail, and some road crossings that remain open to traffic. The 5k follows the Overmountain Victory Trail into the Discovery loop and returns to Fonta Flora.
Aid stations provide water only. Bathrooms are available at specified aid locations: the 7 miler has facilities near miles 1, 4.5, and 6; the 5k has facilities near miles 1 and 2. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on course; service animals are permitted with prior approval and supporting documentation. Awards include cash and gift certificates for top finishers plus age group prizes; age groups span 19 & under through 80 & up. There is a no refund policy; transfers to virtual entries or other runners are allowed up to five days before the event, with specific shipping fees applied when transferring later.
