Lake James 7 Miler & 5k
The Lake James races take place at Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, NC and use trails inside Lake James State Park. The event offers two race distances and includes chip timing; the event runs rain or shine. Race registration includes a finisher medal, a race shirt, one Fonta Flora beer or alternate beverage, and a donation to the Lake James Environmental Association. Virtual options are available with US shipping for race swag.

The 7 Miler follows single-track and multi-use trails, crosses a park road, includes a beach crossing, and returns via the Overmountain Victory Trail. The 7 Miler has about 425 ft of elevation gain and no mile markers. The 5k uses the Overmountain Victory Trail and the Discovery Loop, with an aid station at the parking lot.
Aid stations provide water only. Bathrooms are located near the aid stations as follows:
- 7 Miler: Mile 1, Mile 4.5, Mile 6
- 5k: Mile 1, Mile 2
Dogs and strollers are not allowed on the race courses; they may remain at the brewery area. Service animals are permitted with prior approval and supporting documentation. The 7 Miler has a two hour course time limit.
Awards include cash and custom awards for top overall and age group prizes; age group awards are Fonta Flora pint glasses and winners must be present to receive them. The event has a no refund policy; transfers to virtual or other runners are allowed within the event's stated transfer window. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
