FlatRock 101 - Independence, KS
FlatRock 101 is a trail event held April 17, 2027 near Elk City Lake in Independence, Kansas, organized by FlatRock Race Series. The event offers multiple distances on the Elk River Hiking Trail and includes on-course support, camping near the start, and nearby lodging in Independence.

The course is a double out and back on the Elk River Hiking Trail. It follows an accurately measured forest trail through limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. The route is mostly single-track, very rocky, and contains no long hills.
Aid stations vary by distance and are placed roughly every 3.5 to 5 miles. The 101 mile event has 24 aid stations, with 18 fully stocked stations offering water, electrolyte drink, and snack-type foods including soup and sandwiches, and 6 water-only stations. Shorter distances have fewer aid stations with similar provisions scaled to each event.
Support and race services include two packet pickup opportunities with a Friday evening pre-race spaghetti dinner offering vegetarian and gluten free options, permitted drop bags for longer distances, crew access at designated locations for 50K and ultra distances, and pacers allowed for the 101K and 101 mile events under specific conditions. Complimentary race photos are provided. The event has a deferral policy that issues race credit rather than refunds and a volunteer benefit program and a military discount.
