Trail Running at Tellico Reservoir
The Firewater Ultra takes place on the East Lakeshore Trail along the east coast of the Tellico Reservoir in Greenback, Tennessee. Utilizing a trail system maintained by the Watershed Association of the Tellico Reservoir (WATeR), the event features well-maintained and runnable terrain. The 2026 edition marks the 12th year of the event.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several distances and formats:
- 100 km: An out-and-back course running the entire length of the trail. It features multiple aid stations accessible to crews.
- 50 km Sunrise: A point-to-point race starting at the northern end (Canal Branch Trailhead) and finishing at the southern end (Wildcat Pointe). Transportation to the start is provided.
- 50 km Sunset: A later start option following the same point-to-point course as the Sunrise version, designed to finish after dark.
- 50 km Relay: A two-person team event where the first leg is longer with less elevation and the second leg involves more climbing.
- 25 km Ruck: A weighted pack event covering the second half of the 50 km course. Required weights vary by age and gender.
- 25 km Run: A standard trail run covering the same 22.5 km section as the Ruck event.
Event Logistics
The finish line for all distances is located at the Wildcat Pointe Trailhead. Runners in the point-to-point events are transported to their respective starting locations by bus. Aid stations are positioned along the course, providing support and timing checkpoints. Live tracking is available for friends and family to follow participants' progress through a dedicated application. Participants who register by mid-October are guaranteed an event hoodie.
