Fire Tower Trail Races : Ward Pound Ridge Reservation
The event on June 6, 2027 features two trail races at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY. Both courses pass the summit where a historic fire tower is being reconstructed by the county parks department.
Distances:
- 13.1 Miles half marathon that circumnavigates park trails and reaches three overlooks.
- 10K course that climbs to the top of the park.
The half marathon visits Spy Rock, Raven Rocks, and the Leatherman Overlook and follows trails that include named rock features such as Raven Rocks, Castle Rock, Spy Rock, Bear Rock, Dancing Rock, and the Indian Rock Shelter. The listed elevation change for the 10K is 1006 feet. The half marathon elevation change is approximately 2360 feet.
The event raises funds for the Friends of the Fire Tower, a group that is part of the Westchester Parks Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit. Fundraising proceeds are intended for projects to improve public accessibility to the tower and to support educational elements such as signage, canopy viewscape mapping signage, and benches at the tower base.
