Feed My Starving Children 5k/10k
A pair of trail races held at Red Mountain Park, starting at the Frankfurt Drive entrance in Birmingham, Alabama. The event offers two distances on established park trails and supports a Feed My Starving Children packing event.
- 5K: flat, wide gravel out-and-back to the Eureka Trail.
- 10K: follows the park outer perimeter trail and returns to the start.
Water stations are provided on course: the 5K has one water stop at the turnaround; the 10K has water at the turnaround and at about 3.5 miles. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female overall finishers.
Onsite registration and packet pickup are available the morning of the event. Registration fees listed for the races are $35 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K.
Organizers have a history of mobile packing efforts: over 12 years they have prepared more than 1,000,000 meals that have provided food for over 2,700 children. Proceeds from this event will support a packing session scheduled for January at Pleasant Hill UMC in McCalla, Alabama. Two hours of volunteer time is presented as the amount of time needed to help feed a child for a year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
