Harvest Moon Backyard Ultra
The Harvest Moon Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra-format trail event held on Saturday, October 2. The course is 4.167 miles per lap; each lap is referred to as a "yard." The event follows the standard Backyard Ultra rules and measures results in terms of completed yards.
Participants must be inside the corral at the start of each hour and all runners must begin each yard when the bell sounds. Warnings are given three, two, and one minutes before the start of each yard. Each yard must be completed in less than one hour to count. Runners may not leave the course during a yard except for brief restroom breaks, and personal aid is not allowed during a yard. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are prohibited. Non competitors may not accompany active runners on the course, including runners who have been eliminated.
The official result is the number of yards completed. The winner is the last person to complete a yard; all other participants are recorded as DNF. If no participant can complete one more yard than anyone else, there is no winner. An interactive Strava map is planned for early 2027. Organizers acknowledge volunteers and trail crews who help clean and prepare the trails for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
