Export Trail Running Festival
The Export Trail Running Festival takes place in Export, Pennsylvania, featuring routes that cross the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, the West Penn Trail, and several local parks including the Morosini Reserve, Duff Park, and Pleasant Valley Park. The event is held during the autumn season, allowing participants to experience the changing leaf colors of western Pennsylvania. All profits from the event are donated to the local trail community.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 103 Mile - An out-and-back route with 7,392 feet of elevation gain and a 32-hour time limit.
- Half Marathon - Known as the Coal Miner's Daughter, this 13.1-mile race is limited to 25 participants.
The 103-mile course consists of various surfaces, including accessible public trails that remain open to bicycles and the general public, as well as single-track sections in the nature reserves and parks. Runners in the 100-mile category are permitted to have pacers after mile 62 for the remainder of the duration.
The event features multiple aid stations along the route. Most stations are equipped with heated bathrooms and running water. Full aid stations provide hot food, electrolyte drinks, and standard snacks, while others serve as water stops. The course is designed to be accessible for crew and spectators, with many points where runners can be observed during the race.
The Half Marathon starts at the Westmoreland Heritage Trail trailhead in Export. The route travels west into Duff Park and includes loops through both Duff Park and Pleasant Valley Park before returning to the finish at the red caboose in Export.
