South Ridge Trail Challenge
The South Ridge Trail Challenge is a trail race held on the South Ridge of North Park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The event uses trails across the South Ridge Plateau and features routes that run up, down, and around the plateau, showcasing early summer scenery in Western PA.
Distances offered:
- 5K (about 3.5 miles), hikers welcome
- 10K (about 6.66 miles), more climb, hikers welcome
- 20K (two 10K loops, about a half marathon)
- 50K (five 10K loops, almost 5000 ft elevation gain)
- 50K Relay (five 10K loops, teams of 2 to 5 people)
All distances start and finish near the historic North Park swimming pool. The 50K and the 50K Relay both consist of five repeated 10K loops; the relay format divides those loops among team members. The organizer notes an aid-station cutoff for the 50K final loop: athletes must depart the aid station for that loop by 3:30 pm. Registration windows and entry fees are set per event.
