Exe to Axe - 22 Miles

The Exe to Axe is a trail run along the South West Coast Path from Exmouth to Seaton, covering 22 miles and around 4,000 feet of ascent. It was previously voted 9th best race in the country (Runners World).

The event includes three course options:

  • Exe to Axe - full 22 miles from Exmouth to Seaton
  • Exe to Axe Relay - 22 miles split into 2, 3 or 4 sections
  • Sid to Axe - Sidmouth to Seaton approximately half the distance

Age and entry restrictions are published for each course: the full Exe to Axe is for participants aged 18 or older; the relay allows teams with members aged 15 or older, with 15 year olds limited to stages of 6 miles or less; Sid to Axe requires participants to be 17 or older. Dogs are not permitted.

The route has staffed checkpoints with water and snacks near Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and Branscombe. Runners may use trekking poles but should take care on narrow sections. Bone conducting headphones are allowed; in ear or over ear headphones are not. Baggage transfer from start to finish and optional pre-race transport from Seaton are offered. Time limits apply: 7 hours for the full route and 6 hours for Sid to Axe; published cut off locations and times apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
