About the race
Elk Valley Ultra is a mountain trail race held in Fernie, BC on July 24, 2027, organized by Stag Leap Running Co. The main event is a roughly 50 km trail ultra with about 2,700 m of ascent; the published course and GPX are available and the route is subject to change based on land use permissions.
The 50 km route is described in three legs: Leg 1 climbs and crosses Mt. Fernie, proceeds to Rocky Road and Island Lake Lodge, then through Old Growth Forest; Leg 2 follows old rail trail, climbs Gorby and passes Provincial Park single track; Leg 3 includes a final climb across Mt. Fernie and a steep descent to the finish. A 15 km add-on, the Headwall Hustle, runs at Fernie Alpine Resort with about 840 m of ascent and traverses Timber Bowl, Headwall and Currie Bowl.
Categories and limits for the 50 km include Male, Female and Non-Binary divisions and age groups <19, 19-49 and 50+; the 50 km field is limited to 200 racers. Youth entrants (<19) must contact the Race Director before registering. Registration opens November 1, 2026. Event weekend includes a mandatory check-in and waiver signing on Friday July 23 at Park Place Lodge.
