About the race
The Railway 5k & 1 Mile is an inaugural running event presented by Aetna in Hendersonville, NC, held on the Ecusta Trail, a former railroad corridor connecting Hendersonville and Brevard. The event includes in-person and virtual options and offers separate distances for a timed 5K and an untimed 1 mile fun run.
Distances
- 5K (timed, family-friendly 5 kilometer on the Ecusta Trail)
- 1 Mile (untimed fun run/walk)
Race entries include a short sleeve Bella Canvas shirt if registered before August 16, a commemorative finisher medal, a goody bag, chip timing, complimentary race photos, and a well-marked, spectator-friendly course. Shirts remain available for purchase after the deadline while supplies last. There is discounted in-person 5K pricing for participants ages 12 and under; children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Packet pickup takes place on race day at the Trailhead Pavilion and Hendersonville Welcome Center parking lot, with pickup ending promptly at 7:00 AM. Registrations are non-refundable, but participants may transfer to the virtual event, defer their entry within published deadlines, or change race distance according to the event policies. Transfers between participants are prohibited. The event reserves the right to modify, postpone, cancel, or convert to a virtual format if circumstances require.
