Duncan Ridge Trail

The Duncan Ridge Trail event takes place in the North Georgia Mountains, starting and finishing at Vogel State Park’s Lake Trahlyta in Blairsville, Georgia. The race utilizes the Coosa Backcountry Trail and the Duncan Ridge Trail, the latter of which is recognized as one of the more demanding trail systems in the region. Participants navigate technical terrain with significant vertical gain throughout the course.

The event offers two main distances:

  • 50 km
  • 30 km

The 50 km distance is an out and back course featuring over 10,000 feet of elevation gain. The route begins near cabin 20, follows the Coosa Backcountry Trail north, and transitions onto the Duncan Ridge Trail toward Coosa Bald. Runners reach the turnaround point at Fish Gap before returning along the same path. Most of the course consists of trails, with the exception of a short paved section within the park.

The 30 km course follows the initial route of the longer race but diverges at the second aid station at White Oak Stomp. Runners transition to a dirt road (FS 39) until reaching Wolf Pen Gap, eventually returning to the finish line via the Coosa Backcountry Trail.

The course is supported by multiple aid stations stocked with water, sports drinks, and standard trail race snacks. Strict cut-off times are enforced at specific intervals to ensure safety and course management. All proceeds from the event are donated to park volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
