The event is a circular trail ultramarathon in and around Sherwood Forest, held as a single lap taking runners through forest trails, footpaths and farmland. The route passes Creswell Crags, the Welbeck Estate, Clumber Park, Thoresby Estate and several sandstone villages; the 40.8 mile route also passes the Major Oak.
All races are fully marked and marshalled, and no navigation beyond common sense is required. Basic refreshments are provided at regular intervals and at the finish. All finishers receive a medal unless they opt out. Dogs and canicross are welcome, with a maximum of 20 canicross runners on the event. Pacers and drop bags are not permitted. The event closes when full and operates a waiting list.
