About the race
The Dragon's Tail Stair Climb Challenge is scheduled for January 16, 2027 in St. George, Utah. It is the third annual edition and centers on a loop that includes a flight of 333 stairs that participants descend and then climb as many times as they can.
The event includes multiple race formats and distances. Categories include a 5K and a 1K run or walk, a Sprint Challenge, an Endurance Challenge, and the Knights Quest endurance format. There is also an option to enter all formats as a combined Slayer Challenge.
Distances
- 5K run or walk course including the Dragon's Tail stairs
- 1K run or walk route finishing with the 333 steps
Knights Quest and the Endurance Challenge use repeating lap formats on a 1K loop that return runners to the staircase each lap. Time allowances are reduced by one minute after every five laps. Participants must wait for the next lap start time before beginning the next lap. Competitors who complete the scheduled final laps race to the top for the final placement and gender category winners are recognized.
Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at the Hangar on Tech Ridge, with a morning pickup option on event day for an additional fee. The staircase route will be closed to non participants during the races.
Awards include a finisher medal after the first lap, milestone charms, and additional recognition for those who reach the final lap. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
