About the race
Dragonfly Challenge is scheduled for 6 May 2027 at Pooley Country Park in Tamworth, B78 1JA. The event uses a timed six hour format in which each participant completes as many laps of the course as they wish within the time limit.
Each lap measures 3.3 miles, so participants can choose any target distance. A half marathon equals four laps and a marathon equals eight laps. The event allows running, hiking or walking on the same course.
The course runs through open grassland, parkland pathways and sections of thicker woodland. Most of the lap is flat, with a notable climb up to the Golden Tower of Leaves, a 50 ft statue on site. The venue is a former coal mine and contains multiple ponds and pools along the route.
Facilities at the park include a cafe, a toilet block and on site parking that costs up to £3.50 depending on stay. The site is on the outskirts of Tamworth and is about ten minutes from Junction 10 of the M42; the closest train station is Polesworth. A GPX of the route is available, though the route may be subject to last minute changes and will be marked on race day.
Entry fees follow a tiered scale: £38 before 06/04/2027 and £43 after, with an extra £2 for unaffiliated entrants. There is no booking fee. Medals will be shared when available and an alternative Big Bear Tree Token is offered as a sustainable option. The event partners with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity for optional fundraising. Dogs are not permitted and rucking is allowed.
