About the race
Dead Last Relay is an annual Halloween relay organized by Motivated In Motion Coaching at Roselawn Crescent Northwest / Confederation Park in Calgary, AB. The event is free and held in person over a multi-hour evening session.
Teams of runners take turns on a lit loop, handing off a skeleton arm instead of a baton and repeating the lap until the allotted relay time ends. Each lap measures approximately 400 m. The atmosphere includes course lighting, music, and distributed candy. Organizers provide skeleton arm batons, course lighting, music, candy, post-run snacks, warm drinks, and prizes for the top three costumes.
A costume contest is judged at the end of the relay, with prizes for the top three individual or team costumes. Participants are asked to wear costumes they can run or shuffle in. Individuals without a team can register as solo entrants and will be placed on a team.
Recommended items to bring include a costume, a headlamp or lights if available, layered clothing for standing between legs, and a loud cheering voice.
