Culbin Forest 8 Hour Challenge 2027
The Culbin Forest 8 Hour Challenge takes place on 20 November 2027 at Culbin Forest Car Park, Kintessack, Forres IV36 2TG. Competitors complete as many 4.367 mile loops as possible within an eight hour time limit. A cut-off applies for starting a final lap and for final lap completion.
Lap equivalents:
- 3 laps = Half Marathon
- 6 laps = Full Marathon
- 7+ laps = Ultra Marathon
The route follows trail paths around Culbin Forest and includes about 135 ft of ascent per lap. A GPX file is available for the full route details.
Timing will use electronic wristbands (HuTags on velcro straps) that record the start and finish of each lap and provide a final lap count. Tags must not be covered, and participants should avoid congregating at the start line to prevent false readings. Runners must check out at Basecamp after finishing to hand in timing chips and receive their final lap summary and finisher bag.
Parking is in the left hand side field at the entrance to Culbin Forest; a marshal will direct vehicles and there is a short walk to Basecamp. Basecamp offers two 6 x 3 meter gazebos for kit storage but the organiser does not accept liability for lost items. Spectators are welcome.
Mandatory kit includes at least 1500 ml fluid (refills available), 60-90 g carbohydrates per hour of running, suitable weather clothing, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone.
Volunteers are offered a free entry for a future event or for assisting on the day; roles include start/finish line staff, route marshalling and aid support, event registration and car park support, with role briefing delivered one week prior.
Refunds are available up to two months before the event. Event transfers to another event in the same calendar year are allowed up to one month before.
