Crystal Springs Ultra Races
Crystal Springs Ultra Races take place at the Crystal Springs Recreation Area in Wytheville, VA and are organized by SWVA Running. The event uses a loop course that runs on the Crystal Springs Loop, Boundary Trail, High Rocks Spur Trail, High Rocks Trail, and connecting fire roads and waterline trails. Some trail sections are technical in nature.
Distance options include:
- 36 mile looped format
- 24 mile looped format
- 12 mile looped format
- 4 mile trail loop and a 3 hour option called Crystal Light
- 2 mile kids run on Crystal Springs Loop
Course details: one full loop equals 12.2 miles with 2,008 ft of elevation gain for the 12, 24, and 36 mile options. The 4 mile loop is approximately 4 miles with 774 ft of elevation gain and can feature a waterfall when recent rain has occurred. The kids run uses the Crystal Springs Loop with minimal elevation gain.
Logistics and rules: parking at the recreation area is limited and a shuttle is required on race day; shuttle parking is at 180 Pump Hollow Road, Wytheville, VA 24382 and there is no parking at the start line (723 Pump Hollow Road). The race is cupless; participants must carry a collapsible cup or bottle. Aid stations offer PB&J sandwiches, bananas, pretzels, Oreos, hard candy, a limited number of gels, and hot food at select stations.
Entries are not refundable; transfers, limited rollovers for medical reasons, and a low cost Leftover Option limited to 10 runners are available. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at Seven Sisters Brewery in downtown Wytheville. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
