About the race
The Cruel Jewel 50 is a point to point trail ultramarathon held in the Chattahoochee National Forest of the North Georgia Mountains. The course is listed as approximately 58 miles in length and is composed of 50 miles of trails plus 6 miles of mountain roads. The route runs from Blairsville to Blue Ridge and includes 10 aid stations along the way.
The course features technical single track, steep ascents and descents, ridge lines, rocks and roots, ferns and old growth poplar trees, a historic steel bridge over the Toccoa River, and a section called the Dragon’s Spine. The profile includes about 15,000 feet of elevation gain and 15,000 feet of elevation loss. Event details note more than 300 participants from multiple countries, course records for ladies and gents, and a scheduled date of May 15, 2027. A paid shuttle runs from the finish back to the start and reservations are required. Organizers list race rules such as no littering, no pacers, staying on the marked course, checking in at aid stations, and that trekking poles are allowed. Lodging and primitive camping are available near the finish at Camp Morganton, where dormitory style bunks are offered and runners should bring sleeping gear.
