Cross Country Sundown Showdown
The Cross Country Sundown Showdown is the 3rd annual 5K cross country event held July 16, 2027, at the Carterville Community Center, 120 N Greenbriar Rd, Carterville, IL. Registration opens April 7, 2027 at 9:00 and closes July 16, 2027 at 19:59. Registration and bib pickup are scheduled at the Carterville Community Center on Friday, July 16, 2027 at 6:00 PM. The shirt deadline is July 5, 2027. The registration fee is $25.00.
The race starts and finishes behind the community center. The course uses mostly grass with sections of gravel and paved path. Mile markings will be painted: Mile 1 red, Mile 2 white, Mile 3 blue. A lead vehicle will guide runners through the course.
The event uses standard cross country scoring on a 5K course. Team entries may include 3 to 5 runners, with the top three finishers from each team counting toward the team score. Points equal finishing places (1 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, etc.); the team with the lowest total wins. Teams compete in male, female, and mixed divisions. Mixed teams must include at least two female runners if fielding five participants. Individual runners may compete solo or be matched with others to form a team on race day.
Medals will be presented to the top 25 male and top 25 female finishers. Awards will be given to the top three teams in each division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
