Cross Country Sundown Showdown
The Cross Country Sundown Showdown is the 3rd annual 5K event held in Carterville at the Carterville Community Center, 120 N Greenbriar Rd. The race uses a cross country-style course that is mostly grass with sections of gravel and paved path. The start and finish are located behind the community center.
The event is organized around team competition using standard cross country scoring. Teams may include 3 to 5 runners, with the top three finishers from each team counting toward the team score. Teams compete in three divisions: male, female, and mixed. Mixed teams that enter five runners must include at least two female runners. Individual runners may be matched with others on race day to form teams or may compete solo.
Registration opens February 6, 2027 and closes July 16, 2027; the registration fee is $25.00. The deadline to guarantee a shirt is July 5, 2027. Registration and bib pickup are located at the Carterville Community Center.
Awards are given to the top 25 male and top 25 female finishers, and to the top three teams in each division. Mile markers on the course are painted in specific colors: Mile 1 red, Mile 2 white, Mile 3 blue. A lead vehicle will guide runners along the course.
