About the race
The Cougar Ridge Classic is a point to point trail running event that crosses Vail Mountain, starting in Vail and finishing in the Town of Minturn on September 26, 2026. The event offers two measured race distances and a mix of singletrack, dirt, gravel and paved surfaces across alpine terrain.
Distances
- 26K (16.1 miles) point to point from Vail to Minturn
- 14K (8.9 miles) loop start at Eagle's Nest, finishes in Minturn
The Cougar Ridge 26K gains approximately 3,439 feet and loses about 3,795 feet, reaching a high point near 10,979 feet. The Cougar Cub 14K gains about 591 feet and loses about 3,053 feet, with a high point near 10,681 feet. Running surfaces are mostly singletrack (about 78–82%), with remaining sections on dirt, gravel and paved roads.
Course notes: the route climbs Vail Mountain early, traverses toward Eagle’s Nest, then descends across Game Creek Bowl and Cougar Ridge Singletrack into Minturn. The course is on public trails; runners should expect other trail users.
Support and logistics include five stocked aid stations with electrolyte hydration and a variety of snacks supplied by Skratch Labs, gear bag transport to midcourse or finish (small bags under 20L), shuttle service between Minturn and the start, and enforced cut off times with alternatives for descent off mountain. Awards include cash prizes for top overall finishers and a lunch voucher for participating Minturn restaurants. Registration is limited to 250 racers and tiered entry fees apply.
