About the race

Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series #4 takes place at King County’s Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park in Newcastle, WA, about 15 minutes from Seattle. The event is part of an annual series organized by Seattle Running Club and Northwest Trail Runs that has raised over $254,000 for King County Parks and contributed many hundreds of hours of trail work.

The venue features rolling, runnable hills and a variety of trail surfaces, from narrow, technical single-track to wider, groomed paths. Runners pass through lush forest, fern-lined single-track, hill sections and marsh-adjacent trails. Registration and the race start are located at Sky Country Trailhead off 166th Way SE.

Race options include the following distances:

  • 5k
  • 14.5 mile
  • 26.2 mile

Aid stations are placed at multiple mile markers along the courses; some aid stations serve as intermediate cut-off points for longer distances. The event maintains a series competition with Short and Long divisions; runners must complete at least three of the four races in one division to be eligible for series standings. Course maps and past results are published by the organizers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
