Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay
Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay is an eight mile trail event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, SC. The course is a two mile grassy loop run four times; participants can run solo or as a relay team of two to four, with one runner per lap.
Before each lap runners receive a mystery brew from a communal iced pool; a volunteer provides the drink already cracked and poured. Non-alcoholic carbonated alternatives are available and under‑21 or sober runners are scored in a separate division.
The trail runs through shaded preserve land with rolling hills and wildlife such as deer and foxes. A rustic barn at the site serves as race headquarters and the beer staging area. There is no aid station on the loop; water is provided at the finish line. Parking is available in adjacent field lots and a small facility fee is collected during registration.
Included race services and features listed for the event include on-site packet pickup, chip timing with live results, a custom race bib, finisher medal, event tattoo, branded giveaways and stickers, post-race pizza (teams may pre-order), and admission to Beer Olympics activities such as beer pong, tug of war, dodgeball, cornhole, hillbilly golf and spike ball. Results are posted live and event photos are typically available within 48–72 hours.
Awards include top three overall solo finishers by gender, top three teams in multiple divisions, and age group medals across 15 categories. The race supports the Greenwood Genetic Center and is part of a regional giving series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
