About the race
The Copper Kings 100 is a 100 mile loop ultramarathon in Butte, Montana, scheduled for June 25-26, 2027. The course starts and ends at the Belmont Mine and includes 63 miles of the Continental Divide Trail. The route runs through the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and the event takes place within Butte-Silver Bow and Jefferson counties. The race is produced by Onward Endurance LLC in partnership with the Montana Endurance Trail Foundation and is fully permitted.
The course begins at about 5,650 ft and reaches a high point near 8,400 ft, with a total of 13,960 feet of vertical gain and loss. Much of the route remains above 6,500 ft. Elevation gain is concentrated between the first and last aid stations, and some aid station gaps are long, with the longest segment exceeding 17 miles. The event uses a 40 hour overall cutoff and includes a nonbinary division. No qualifier is required to enter; registration is scheduled to open in December the day after the Western States lottery draw. The 2027 edition is an official qualifier for the 2028 Western States Endurance Run.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Continental Divide Trail Coalition, Our Lady of the Rockies, Mile High Nordic Ski Education Foundation, and the Montana Endurance Trail Foundation. The organizers publish a withdrawal and refund policy that includes partial credit options, special provisions for active duty military, and a no refund policy if the race is canceled by the organizers.
