Clwydian Hills Fell Race

The Clwydian Hills Fell Race is a mountain race around Cilcain covering 14.2 km with about 910 m of ascent. The course starts at Cilcain Water Works and finishes at the village hall. The event is a Category A race (Hard) and the main race is for over-18s only.

Entries are available online and there is also on-the-day registration; the published entry fees are £8 for online entry and £10 for on-the-day registration. Entries open on Fabian4. The organiser provides a kit dump at the village hall to leave bags and keys; this will be staffed while runners are on the fells. Parking at the Waterworks is limited; alternative parking options include the Viewpoint parking or on-street parking in the village with a request to respect residents by not blocking gates, driveways, or junctions. The final miles into the village use narrow roads and the recommended route comes from the Mold-Denbigh A541.

Mandatory kit for this Category A race includes windproof and waterproof full-body cover, map, compass, whistle, hat or buff, gloves, and sufficient food and drink to finish. GPS mapping devices are not allowed; a digital compass (for example on a watch or phone) is acceptable. A revised route for 2025 introduces a new checkpoint CP4 and a direct descent from the Moel Dywyll summit toward the village hall. Refreshments are provided in the village hall after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
