Cilcain Mountain Race
The Cilcain Mountain Race is a traditional village show fell race first run in 1960 and held annually since 1973, with the exception of 2001. It is run as part of the Cilcain Show on August Bank Holiday Monday and follows a route from the showground to the highest local peak and back.
The main race uses a loop route that starts and finishes by the church, climbs the zig zag path and returns via the north spur. The course is approximately 7.4 km with about 380 m of ascent and descent. Entrants must be at least 16 years old on 31 December. Registration takes place in the churchyard. Entries are online only with a £5 fee that includes processing; the entry fee does not include the showground entry charge and there is no entry on the day. Entries may be full with a waiting list in operation.
The 2026 race will incorporate the Welsh Athletics Senior Short Inter-Regional Mountain Running Championships and the North Wales Regional Championships. Full entry and eligibility requirements are provided by Welsh Athletics.
Junior races are WFRA insured and take place in the fields behind the showground. Entry to junior races is free and registration is also in the churchyard. Distances are: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
