Trail Running in the Hertfordshire Countryside
The Chas Avis Harvest Trail is a trail running event hosted by Royston Runners. The event takes place in the rural landscape of Hertfordshire, with routes passing through the scenic areas surrounding Royston and Therfield. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
- 6.5 miles (Quarter Marathon)
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and adheres to UK Athletics rules. The courses consist of trail terrain across the rolling countryside. To maintain the nature of the event and manage costs, finishers do not receive medals, but a selection of cake is provided at the conclusion of the run.
Safety and logistical support include chip timing, medical presence, and water stations along the route. While there are no formal time limits for completion, participants must adhere to specific equipment rules. According to UK Athletics regulations, runners are required to carry a mobile phone, a whistle, and an emergency survival blanket.
Facilities at the Heath Sports Club include toilets, distance markers, and bag storage on request. The field size is limited to 250 participants. Race numbers are collected on the morning of the event at the finish area. Please note that dogs, running buggies, and following cycles are not permitted on the course. With the exception of bone conduction models, headphones are also prohibited.
The event supports Royston & District Community Transport, a local charity providing door-to-door transport for individuals with limited mobility or restricted access to public transport. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
