Charnwood Hills Race
The Charnwood Hills Race is a fell race held under Fell Runners Association rules. The 2027 event is scheduled as the 39th running. The course is approximately 14.5 miles long, follows public footpaths and open country, and passes through Bradgate, Broombriggs and Beacon Hill Country Parks. The route involves over 1,500 feet of ascent and the underfoot conditions are described as rough.
Entries are allocated on a first come first served basis and are handled through EntryCentral. On successful entry the fee of £20 is taken by debit or credit card. Places are guaranteed for the three fastest women and the three fastest men from the previous year; those athletes should contact the organisers if they cannot secure an entry by the normal process. Entries commonly sell out quickly.
The organisers request volunteers, particularly marshals. Volunteers receive a guaranteed entry to the following year’s race which can be transferred to a friend or family member. Past editions from 2022 through 2026 are recorded with published results and race reports; a 2022 race review noted a misdirection incident that was reviewed by officials and did not change the lead placings.
