South Downs Way 50km
The South Downs Way 50km is a 50 km nonstop foot race through the South Downs National Park on 12 June 2027. It is part of the World Trail Majors - Short Series and is the third annual running of the event.
The course follows the chalk ridgeway, largely on the South Downs Way National Trail, starting just outside Winchester at Matterley Bowl and finishing in the Event Field at Queen Elizabeth Country Park at the foot of the descent off Butser Hill. The route lies entirely within the national park and covers about 31 miles with approximately 3800 ft (1150 m) of ascent. Terrain is roughly 80% trail and 20% road.
The event is limited to 400 starters and operates a 9 hour cut off. The course is fully marked and supported by four stocked aid stations, live tracking and full medical cover. Aid stations provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options and a range of sports nutrition, drinks and food. Finishers receive a medal and prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and to age category winners.
There are no qualification standards and the minimum age is 20. The entry fee listed is £85 (£87 unaffiliated). Overnight camping at the start is available. Mandatory kit must be carried and will be checked; examples include a fully charged mobile phone, water provision of at least 1 litre, a survival blanket, a waterproof jacket with sealed seams and a cup. Pacers and crews are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
