Chiltern Wonderland 50

The Chiltern Wonderland 50 is a single loop ultramarathon of 50 miles (approximately 81 km) through the Chiltern Hills and surrounding countryside. The route includes 5,600 ft of ascent and 5,600 ft of descent, and uses a mix of trails and roads with roughly 80% trail and 20% road. The course visits villages and landmarks including Goring-on-Thames, Whitchurch, Mapledurham, Sonning Common, Bix, Stonor Deer Park, Turville, Ibstone, Christmas Common and sections of the Ridgeway.

The event is held under a UK Athletics permit granted through the TRA (Permit Number 8738). The course is fully marked and supported by five staffed aid stations offering vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options plus sports nutrition, drinks and a variety of hot and cold snacks. A dedicated medical team provides a static finish-line presence and roving medics on course.

Entries open on 11 October 2025 with places allocated first come, first served; a minimum marathon-distance qualifier is required to enter. The race enforces a 13 hour overall cut off and additional on-course cut offs. Mandatory kit includes a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, primary and backup lights (each minimum 100 lumens), a long sleeved warm layer kept dry, and a cup; a one hour time penalty applies for missing mandatory items. Pacers and crews are not permitted. All finishers receive a finisher medal and awards are given for top finishers and veteran categories.
