Basalt Breaks Giants Causeway Coast Marathon
The Basalt Breaks Giants Causeway Coast Marathon, launched in 2010, is an off-road trail running event on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, scheduled for 11 September 2027. The event uses coastal paths, cliffs, beaches and forest trails to form out-and-back routes that pass the Giant's Causeway and nearby headlands.
Race categories cover a range of distances and formats. Both the Marathon and Ultra are ITRA points events, with the Ultra allocated 2 points and the Marathon 1 point. Proceeds from the 10 km race and the 10 km Challenge Walk support Cancer Focus NI.
Route notes and local places mentioned in event information include Larrybane Quarry, Portbraddon rock scramble, White Park Bay Beach, Portballintrae, and Portstewart Strand. Organisers list sponsors and partners including NeutriLean, Glens of Antrim Crisps, Mourne Mountains Brewery, Basalt Six, Basalt Breaks (accommodation partner), and INOV8 Trail Running (recommended equipment provider).
The event offers international entry and is presented as a series of trail races along the Causeway Coast with varying distances and terrain, from shorter fundraising events to a 64 km ultra marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
