Castle Rock Trail Festival / liveBIG Run
Castle Rock Trail Festival, also called the liveBIG Run, is a challenge-style trail event held on the Philip S. Miller Park and Ridgeline Open Space trail system. The weekend program includes ultramarathon and shorter trail race options plus a family adventure run for children.
Distances offered include:
- Ridgeline 50K ultramarathon
- Ridgeline Half Marathon
- Ridgeline 10K
- Philip S. Miller 5K
- liveBIG Family Adventure Run, 1.2 miles, for ages about 5 to 12 with families
All participants receive an event T shirt and a finisher's medal. The event uses professional chip timing with disposable bib chips, provides free post event photo downloads, and offers post race refreshments. Interactive route maps are available and separate PDF maps exist for the 5K, 10K, half marathon and 50K courses.
The Ridgeline 50K carries an overall 8 hour time limit and uses a designated drop bag tent near the finish or second loop start. Aid stations supply bottled water and basic first aid at every station, with electrolytes at selected stations. The finish area offers water, Gatorade and beer.
Awards are given overall and by age group for races 5K and up, including top overall male and female and age group placings. Early October conditions can be variable with average lows near 35°F and highs near 65°F; trails may be muddy and weather could include rain or snow. The course reaches about 6,700 ft in elevation.
