About the race
The Cascades Trail Run takes place on a purpose built trail network in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, 11 October 2026. The venue is the Cascades Lifestyle Center and the event uses loop courses on established singletrack through gum and pine plantations, indigenous forest, and bamboo groves with frequent panoramic views across the city. Routes include flowing singletrack, technical rocky sections, climbs and descents. The event offers three distances with the following measured elevation and aid station details: the 18 km course has about 740 m of climbing and three aid stations; the 10 km course has about 440 m of climbing and two aid stations; the 5 km course has about 250 m of climbing and one aid station.
There are no compulsory kit requirements listed and courses are subject to change. The race type is loop and the venue provides event facilities and access for runners and supporters. GPX route files are available for the long, medium and short courses. The event is held on a trail network also used for mountain biking and is described as providing varied terrain along the Ferncliffe ridgeline and other sections of the network.
