About the race
Carpe Diem – Carpe Noctem is a trail running event held at Proud Lake State Recreation Area in Commerce Township, Michigan. The event uses the same marked trail course for both daytime and nighttime running so participants can run in daylight, after dark, or both.
Distances and formats available:
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon
- 10 km 10K
- 26.2 miles Double Half Marathon
- 20 km Double 10K
- 19.3 miles Mixed double combinations
- Virtual race options for Half, 10K, or double formats
The trails are described as wide and runnable with a few rooty sections. If it rains, the course may include typical Michigan spring mud. Turn signs mark every intersection and confidence markers appear approximately every 0.1 mile to assist navigation.
Evening races begin near sunset and many finish after dark; participants are expected to provide their own headlamp or flashlight for night running. Registered participants receive a spring race hoodie with regular registration; Economy registration omits the shirt and finisher medal. Runners who complete both day and night events receive a two-piece magnetic medal set.
Between the daytime and evening races there is a full-day community gathering with hot food, a potluck, lawn games, and opportunities to rest and socialize. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
