Captains Crossing - The Gong
Captains Crossing - The Gong is the finale of a five part "off the beaten track" Trail Run Series, held on Sunday 30 August 2026 at the corner of Pinnacle Septimus and Pinnacle Station Roads near Mia Mia State Forest in Pinnacle, QLD. The event runs on uneven off-road terrain with technical sections, steep climbs and fast descents. Prize money totals over $700. The longest distance, 24 km, is listed as a UTMB Index Race.
Distances:
- 24 km To the Creek and Back; 553 m elevation; water stations at 3, 8, 12, 16 and 21 km
- 14 km Mix of fire road, single trail and creek crossings; water stations at 3, 7 and 11 km
- 6 km The Gong Return with initial 3 km climb then return; water station at 3 km
Course notes describe steep early climbs from Pinnacle Station Road, a mix of old fire roads and single trail, creek crossings and a section through Mia Mia State Forest that passes a historic homestead. Courses are marked with tape, signage and marshals on the route.
Mandatory gear requirements vary by distance and include a snake bandage, a phone with the Emergency+ app and specified water volumes (for example 1.5 L recommended for 24 km). Event safety provisions include course marshals and a safety vehicle with first aid. Toilets are not available at the start/finish; the closest public toilets are at Gargett Rodeo Grounds.
