Canal Shuffle - Winding Paths

Canal Shuffle is a timed challenge held along the Grand Western Canal near Sampford Peverell, close to Tiverton. The event uses a flat out and back lap of approximately 6.55 miles along the canal. Runners may complete as many laps as they choose within the seven hour challenge format or choose a separate 10k option that uses a shorter lap and a separate start.

The route starts at Sampford Peverell and follows the canal to Burlsecombe, where an aid station is located. A turn marshal is positioned about 3.3 miles from the start, roughly a quarter mile beyond the Burlsecombe aid station. An aid station is also provided at race headquarters.

Distances and typical targets:

  • One lap: 6.55 miles out and back.
  • Two laps: Half Marathon.
  • Four laps: Marathon.
  • Five laps or more: Ultramarathon.
  • 10k option: separate start to make a 10k out and back.

A bespoke medal is awarded to everyone who completes at least one lap. The challenge event gives awards for the furthest male and furthest female. The 10k has awards for first, second and third male and female. A secure bag drop is available at Sampford Peverell Village Hall. Runners must keep their race number visible and report lap finishes to the timing team; participants may stop after any completed lap and may take breaks between laps.
