By Way of The Glen
By Way of The Glen is a 170 mile foot race between Glasgow and Inverness that follows two long-distance routes: the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way. The event date is 1st July 2027 and the route has a total ascent of around 24,000 ft.
The course starts at Milngavie Train Station and requires runners to complete the West Highland Way section (94 miles) within 28 hours before following a short tarmac link to join the Great Glen Way (72 miles) at Neptune Staircase. The route is fully waymarked with sign arrows and includes checkpoints where runners can be met by their support teams. Some checkpoints are serviced by marshals for drop bags because of remote locations. Runners are tracked during the event and there is a stated requirement to have at least one runner able to run in case help is needed off the route between checkpoints.
Entry is restricted to individuals who have completed races of 70 miles or more; entrants’ race history is vetted before full entry is confirmed. Mandatory kit must be carried as specified in the pre-race information. Race rules include ID at registration, no transfer of places, no muling, no walking poles, no support runners or bike buddies, no dogs, and no swimming in the canal. UTMB points are listed as tbc and the listed entry fee is £268/270.
