Boyne Valley 50 is a multi-distance trail running event held along the Dawes Range section of the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail between Many Peaks and Barrimoon. The race precinct is based at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks with parking on the main road and nearby camping and town accommodation options listed for the Boyne Valley and Calliope.
Distances offered:
- 50 km (out and back to Barrimoon, includes tunnels)
- 23 km Uphill (from Many Peaks to Barrimoon)
- 23 km Downhill (shuttle to Barrimoon then return to Many Peaks)
- 12 km Taster (6 km out and back)
The event is a registered UTMB Index race. Cut-off times apply to each distance and will be strictly enforced: 8 hours for 50 km, 4 hours for each 23 km option, and 2.5 hours for the 12 km. Aid stations with water, fruit and some hydration products are positioned at Golembil and Barrimoon; additional stations are placed at 12 km, 25 km and 38 km for the 50 km and at specific points for 23 km races. Competitors must carry required mandatory gear, including a visible race bib, minimum hydration volumes (1 L for 50 km, 500 ml for 23 km, 250 ml for 12 km), a compression bandage, and a charged mobile phone for longer distances.
The course runs on an open rail trail with vehicle priority at road crossings and limited phone reception in parts. Organisers note natural risks such as weather, wildlife and unstable terrain, and require competitors to follow safety signage and race staff instructions. Five percent of registration fees supports the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail Inc. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
