Borrowdale Trail Half Marathon
The Borrowdale Trail Half Marathon takes place on 23rd August 2026 in the Borrowdale Valley, finishing at Crow Park on Lake Road in Keswick. The route distance is 13 miles / 21 km. Registration is located at Crow Park; the start is at the track adjacent to the entrance and car park at Lingholm (CA12 5TZ, NGR 251 223). The start and finish are in different locations; the start is roughly a 35 minute walk or a 25 minute jog from Crow Park. A 4 hour time limit applies.
The course begins at Lingholm and follows woodland trails toward Hawse End Bay on the shores of Derwentwater, then runs alongside the shoreline past several bays and inlets. A short road section leads to Grange, then the route follows the river Derwent and climbs through ancient oak woodlands and alongside Castle Crag. After a descent toward Rosthwaite a second main climb leads toward Watendlath where a water station is located. The route continues through Ashness Wood, passes Surprise View and Ashness Bridge, traverses below Falcon Crags into Great Wood, crosses the Borrowdale road and returns along lakeshore trails into Crow Park.
Terrain includes lakeside trails, rocky singletrack, footpaths and bridleways with a mix of climbs and descents. The course is waymarked with marshals at key points. Facilities include a water station at 12.5 km and at the finish, toilets at registration/start/finish areas and a refreshment van at the finish. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and event photographs will be available to download. The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association (permit no. 8625) and will be held in accordance with UK Athletics rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
