Bleasdale Circle by VÅGA
Bleasdale Circle by VÅGA is a fell race starting and finishing at Bleasdale Parish Hall. The route covers 5 miles (8 km) with approximately 1,250 ft (381 m) of ascent and reaches a highest point of 500 metres where conditions can be exposed and severe, including strong winds, sub-zero temperatures, frozen ground, snow, or ice. The minimum age for entry is 18.
The route leaves the hall across about 1,500 metres of often muddy farmland, passes Bleasdale Circle and heads toward Higher Fairsnape Farm. A further 1,500 metre farm track leads to a fell gate, after which the course climbs steeply on rough grassy terrain with hidden rocks to Paddy's Pole (CP1). A cut off operates at Paddy's Pole set at 55 minutes. Runners then descend on a mixed grass and rock path, climb to Parlick (CP2), and return via a steep grassy descent with potential hidden rocks and reeds before rejoining farm tracks and fields past Blindhurst Farm. The final 2 km follow farmland and tracks back to the finish.
The event crosses sensitive fell ground and requests respect for the environment. Mandatory kit includes full waterproof body cover top and bottoms, map and compass, whistle, hat and gloves. Kit checks will be conducted at registration at Bleasdale Parish Hall; competitors without the required kit will not be registered or permitted to race. Parking is very limited; charges apply and proceeds go to Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team. Entries open 13 October 2026 and close 5 February 2027. Entry fees are £5 for FRA members and £7 for non members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
