Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run
The Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run is a timed trail event held at the Sac River Mountain Bike Trails in Springfield, Missouri. The event takes place within a 300-acre park featuring over 14 miles of interconnected single-track trail managed by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Ozark Greenways.
Participants navigate a 4.15-mile loop consisting of moderately technical single-track terrain with rocks and roots. The course meanders through hardwood forests and small glades. While the first lap must be completed in a specific direction, runners have the option to run the loop in either direction for subsequent laps, provided they check in between each circuit. The course features approximately 400 feet of elevation gain per lap, with an initial uphill trend followed by a mix of descents and flat sections.
The event offers several timed categories:
- 12 Hour Run
- 6 Hour Run
- 3 Hour Run
- 1 Hour Run
Only completed laps are counted toward the total mileage, and laps must be finished before the official time limit expires. A central aid station at the Base Camp Pavilion provides food, drinks, and first aid. There is also space near the pavilion for crews to set up tents.
All registered participants receive custom swag, with additional items provided for those in the longer timed events. Runners who complete 8 laps (50 km) or 12 laps (50 miles) earn a special finishers award. Dogs are permitted at the event but must remain on a leash.
