Blacka Moor Chase
Blacka Moor Chase is a trail race organised by Totley AC that starts and finishes outside the Totley AC pavilion on the cricket pitch. The course is approximately 6.7 km with around 270 m of total ascent and runs entirely on public rights of way.
The route begins with a lap of the field and a roughly 1 km tarmac stretch along Strawberry Lee Lane. A short sharp climb leads onto the fell and across fields over Totley Moor to the top of Blacka Moor Woods. Runners then descend technical paths and tracks down the very steep Piper Gate, pass the stepping stones, and return via Strawberry Lee Lane to the cricket pitch. Paths through Blacka Moor Wood include exposed tree roots.
There is an entry limit of 250. Entry is available by pre-entry or on the day if the race is not full; the pre-entry fee is £8. Minimum age is 16 with an adult signing in.
Facilities at the pavilion include toilets, showers and changing rooms; water is provided but runners should bring their own cup or bottle. Parking is very limited and limited off-road parking will be signposted on the day; car sharing and alternative travel options are encouraged.
The race is held under FRA rules. Runners must carry any kit required by the Race Organiser and follow FRA best practice recommendations. Mandatory kit inspections may be carried out and failure to comply with route, checkpoint or kit requirements can lead to disqualification. Entrants may not take dogs on the course.
Prize giving takes place inside the bar area. Prizes include top three male and female, first Totley runner, age group awards for 18-23, Senior, V40, V50, V60 and V70, plus some spot prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
