Black Canyon Ultras
The Black Canyon Ultras are point to point trail races held February 13-14, 2027 along the Black Canyon National Recreation Trail, running from Spring Valley to the Emery Henderson Trailhead near New River, Arizona. The event offers two distances:
- 100K , point to point, 62.2 miles on the Black Canyon Trail
- 50K , point to point, 32.2 miles on the Black Canyon Trail
Both courses follow non-motorized single track, sections of jeep road, and portions of an old stagecoach route. The 100K covers roughly a 55-mile section of the Black Canyon Trail and includes multiple creek crossings, a mandatory out-and-back at Black Canyon City, and diversions through Bumble Bee Ranch and Deep Canyon Ranch. The trail alternates winding single track and wider road sections; junctions are marked and runners must follow course markings.
Key 100K stats include a 20 hour time limit, about +5,219 ft elevation gain and -7,337 ft elevation loss. The 50K has an 11 hour limit, about +2,004 ft gain and -4,005 ft loss. Aid stations serve both distances; the 100K lists nine stations spaced 4.5-9 miles and allows drop bags at four stations. GU Energy gels, electrolyte drink, and a range of food options are available at aid stations. Crewing and pacer policies differ by distance: pacers are permitted only on the 100K beginning at Deep Canyon Ranch, and crew access is limited to specified aid stations. The event is cupless, and organizers provide shuttle service between designated parking and race locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
