Black Barn Backyard Ultra
Black Barn Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing backyard ultra scheduled for October 3, 2026. The event uses repeated laps called "yards." Each completed yard increases a visible prize jar by one hundred dollars; the accumulated money is intended to be split 75% to the winner and 25% to the runner-up when those positions are determined. Example prize totals listed include $2,400 for a 100-mile outcome and $4,800 for a 200-mile outcome.
The course awards a custom engraved belt buckle to every runner who completes 24 laps (the equivalent of 100 miles). All participants receive a custom DNF medal engraved with laps or miles completed, a T-shirt (sizes and quantities limited for registrations after September 1), a sticker kit, a cowbell, and other event items.
Race procedures require runners to be in the starting corral at the beginning of each yard and to start with the group; late starts are not permitted. Competitors may not leave the course during a yard except to use restrooms. No crewing or outside aid is allowed during a yard, and artificial aids such as trekking poles are prohibited. Slower runners must allow passes. Runners are responsible for their own aid and nutrition; water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items are provided at the start/finish area. The winner is the last person to complete a yard; if no competitor can complete one more loop than everyone else, the event may end without a winner.
