Black Barn Backyard Ultra
Black Barn Backyard Ultra is a Last One Standing backyard ultra held as part of the Freedom Ultra events on October 2, 2027. Runners complete repeated one-hour loops called yards. Each yard starts precisely on the hour; runners must be in the starting corral at the bell and must start with the bell. Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until the loop is completed. The winner is the last person to complete a yard; all other runners are classified as DNF. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.
A clear container receives a new $100 bill at the top of every hour, so the prize increases each hour. The final accumulated pot is split 75% to the winner and 25% to the runner-up. Noted prize examples are $2,400 for 100 miles and $4,800 for 200 miles. Awards include a custom engraved belt buckle for 100-mile finishers (24 laps), an engraved DNF medal for all runners showing laps or miles completed, a race t-shirt (sizes limited for late registrants), a sticker kit, and a cowbell. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items are available at start/finish. Race rules also prohibit crewing or outside aid during a yard and forbid artificial aids.
