Birkie Trail Run
The Birkie Trail Run takes place on September 26, 2026 at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead in Cable, Wisconsin. The event program includes a range of distances and formats on the Birkie Trail system, with race options that use ski trail, two track, logging roads, and singletrack sections.
Event distances and formats:
- Marathon (two laps of a 13.1 mile loop)
- Half Marathon
- Marathon Relay, 3-person and 6-person teams
- 10K (new for 2026)
- 5K Run/Walk
- Nordic Trek, approximately 8.5 miles
- Kids Fun Run / 1K
Course notes: several races include singletrack sections and rolling terrain, and some courses include an ascent to the top of Mt. Telemark. The Nordic Trek follows ski trail, logging roads, and double track and does not include singletrack on the route.
Aid stations provide water, Tailwind endurance fuel, and cookies; cups are not provided so participants should bring a personal hydration vessel. The finish area supplies Kemps chocolate milk, granola bars, beef sticks, pickle spears, bananas, and cookies. Expo activities include Rossignol shoe demos and a Friday group run.
Registration items and policies: registration includes a custom T-shirt, race bib and pins, and a finisher medal. Age minimums apply: marathon runners must be 18 or older; half marathon and marathon relay participants must be 13 or older. Relay teams exchange at five aid station locations and are placed into gender and masters categories. Relay registration closes September 21, 2026; entries may be transferred between events until September 23, 2026 for a $15 processing fee plus any fee difference, with no partial refunds when changing to a shorter event.
Awards: podium awards are given for overall and age-class winners in several events; select event winners receive Rossignol trail shoes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
