About the race
The Big Texas Ultra is a two day endurance event at Flat Creek Crossing Ranch near Johnson City, TX. It features a Friday 15K and on Saturday a 15K, a 50K loop, a 100K and a 15K RUCK. The 15K is an out and back trail and the 50K is a loop that begins and ends at the ranch.
The course uses trails through Flat Creek Crossing Ranch and Pedernales Falls State Park with dirty and rocky singletrack and wider trail sections. Elevation gain is provided for main courses: the 50K loop shows about 2,200 ft of gain and the 15K out and back shows about 850 ft of gain. Aid stations are placed along the courses and include hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice and ice; separate water only stations are also listed. Drop bags may be left at the start/finish and will be driven to the Lone Star aid station near mile 15. Required gear rules differ by distance.
A hydration carrying system is required (minimum 16-ounce for 15K; 24–32 ounce for 50K and 100K). 50K and 100K participants must carry a phone. For the 100K, a headlamp is required for the last 50K.
Ruck entries must meet weight rules: over 150 lb carry 30 lb, under 150 lb carry 20 lb; ruck sacks or vests are allowed. Parking is at Flat Creek Crossing Ranch and camping is not allowed at the ranch; Pedernales Falls State Park is nearby for camping. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
